I’ve made more promos than Soft Mick
is what I’d say if I’d been brought up in Lancashire in the 1950s. But I was actually brought up in Yorkshire in the 80s. So: I’ve made a lot of promos. Ads, too. Tons of social. Animation. Music. I really like making stuff.
I love collaborating too. I’m currently working closely with the creative team at Disney +, building graphics and bespoke typography for their priority campaigns. Working together via Slack and Zoom is proving almost as effective as being in the suite, only with slightly less brews and Hobnobs involved (I really need an enabler).
With 18 years experience as a creative editor, I got all the cliches out of the way early and am now focused on making things interesting: always pushing the original idea over the safe-and-tested, and with the confidence and track record to argue my case. But alongside this, I’ve also developed an acute knack for recognising when someone else’s idea is better. It’s my firm belief that the best results come from an environment in which no-one is being a dick.
